First swallow of 2023 sighted in Coombe Road today 15 April. Last years first sighting was on 21 April.

Wood Anemone & Celandine

Spring wild flowers are coming into bloom at a great rate now. The picture shows wood anemones and celandine in Duncombe Wood. Also heard the calling of chiffchaffs in the wood for the first time this year.

Fruit of the Wych Elm

Pictured is the rather unusual fruit of the wych elm. This picture was taken of a branch of the junior tree next to great wych elm in Halnacker Lane. After dutch elm disease, these trees are very rare so we are lucky to have a couple in the parish

Colts-foot is Flowering

Spring is Early This Year

Lesser Celandine is now flowering at the bottom of hedges around the Parish. This picture was taken at The Old Dairy in Coombe Road. The mild January and February weather has brought them out early this year.
